We Have Lost, So it's Welcome to Meximerica

He does whatever he wants...

President Obama is above the law. He can decide which laws he likes and which laws he doesn't and with the executive privileges afforded him by the constitution he rides herd over timid and/or paralyzed Congress and does what he wants.

He wanted to take over the school loan program and so he did, no discussion, no debate and certainly no legislation. Last week he decided he didn't like the way the "Dream Act" voting turned out in Congress so he declared that he is just not going to enforce the immigration laws that now exist. Of course it was an election year ploy to bolster the Hispanic vote in his favor. Nonetheless, he did what he wanted regardless of what the law says.

Everything with this guy is partisan and political, everything. He is by far the most divisive politician this country has ever seen. He never engages with Congress, not even with his own party. He spouts shibboleths and propaganda and the adoring media just carries the water. If one of them steps out of line they get booted or at least ostracized until they crawl back into fold with unending hymns of praise. Right Mark Halprin?

Obama isn't at all serious about solving this country's problems only forwarding his radical ideological agenda. Congress has twice rejected his budgets with zero votes in his favor  -   that's zero Republicans and zero Democrats. He simply isn't serious about being a leader. He convinces no one with his sophomoric rhetoric and then just declares what will be so. Congress and the media just roll over  -  and we will see in November whether the "people"roll over too.

Yesterday the Supreme Court upheld the key element of the Arizona immigration enforcement law. Namely they affirmed the provision that local law enforcement CAN try to determine citizenship status when investigating possible crimes. They threw out 3 other aspects of the Arizona law, but the immigration status issue was one that got the lawsuit all started.Obama wins 3 to 1 right? Miffed that he didn't get all he wanted what do you suppose the imperialist did? The petulant brat immediately ordered ICE and the Justice Dept. to sever all ties with Arizona law enforcement. In other words when Arizona has illegal aliens to turn over to ICE the phone won't be answered.

President Obama just does whatever he wants, damn the constitution. No one in Congress really challenges him. The Republicans are a joke, they are clearly on the right side of this debate and they just roll over and play dead because they are so afraid of offending Hispanics. It's just sad. Have some guts you pansies!

With this ruling the Supreme Court essentially said immigration is in the Federal government's corner - which is absolutely true. The constitution gives the Federal government the DUTY to safeguard our country from foreign invaders, but Obama is blithely shirking this duty and inviting invasion. This should be a crime, hell, it is a crime.

No one I know, and not one Republican or conservative is "against" immigration, but most of us are against illegal immigration. President Obama spits on all who obey the law and follow the rules to get into this country.

Great, Just Great: Need More to Worry About?

As if we don't have enough to worry about already. Let me count the ways...

The entire global economy is tanking while millions are losing their jobs and their homes. Oh yeah, here's a comforting thought, did you know your individual share of government debt is projected to top $30,000 by the end of the year? Your last 401K statement made you cry only half as hard as you did the last time you bought groceries. I could go on and on - and on.

Today I read that there is a potential pandemic knocking at the back door. Too bad the back door is not only unlocked it's flung wide open and has been for years. There is a new a virulent strain of the swine flu spreading through Mexico. (read about it here) Thousands have been infected and dozens have died.

The unusual thing is that unlike most flu outbreaks this one is killing young adults and adults instead of the elderly and very young children. That's interesting and unusual. Interesting because the last time a true pandemic swept the world in the World War I era it was also healthy adults that succumbed. The death rate for 15 to 34-year-olds by influenza was 20 times higher than any other flu outbreak. Somewhere between 20 and 40 million people died worldwide. It has been cited as the most devastating epidemic in recorded world history. Known as "Spanish Flu" or "La Grippe" the influenza of 1918-1919 was a global disaster. Could we be headed for something similar?

On the other hand is this another Peter and the wolf scenario? According to the article cited earlier, scientists have long been concerned that a new flu virus could launch a worldwide pandemic of a killer disease. A new virus could evolve when different flu viruses infect a pig, a person or a bird, mingling their genetic material. The resulting hybrid could spread quickly because people would have no natural defenses against it. Interestingly enough this is exactly what has happened in Mexico.

Right now flu experts were concerned but not alarmed about the latest outbreak. Also from the article these words of comfort such as it is... The CDC says two flu drugs, Tamiflu and Relenza, seem effective against the new strain. Roche, the maker of Tamiflu, said the company is prepared to immediately deploy a stockpile of the drug if requested. However both drugs have to be administered early to have any efficacy.

Bottom line: if you feel like you might be getting the flu visit the doctor and ask about these drugs - especially if you are between 15 to 34 years old.

The Last Act Of George W. Bush

Little was made of President Bush's last day in office, after all a living saint was taking over at noon. But Bush did a classy thing in my opinion, and dare I say, the right thing. He commuted the sentences of of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. You might remember these were the two Border Patrol officers implicated and convicted of the shooting and wounding an unarmed illegal immigrant -- suspected of drug smuggling at the time -- and then covering it up.

Commuting rather than pardoning their sentences was proper because what these guys did was wrong when they attempted to cover it up. A cover up will always get you in more trouble than the act ever will. Had they not tried erase their tracks that day they would be, in my mind, a pair of heroes. Clearly the punishment for their crime was far too harsh.

The thing that frosted me and so many others was the zeal with which federal authorities went after Ramos and Compean. Traveling to Mexico to track down the drug smuggler and bringing him to the U.S. with full immunity to testify was just too much to take. Listen, there is something drastically wrong when we have a real problem at the border with illegal immigration and drug running and OUR government gleefully takes down 2 of the men whose job it is to stop these illegal activities. Again, what they did was ultimately wrong, but 11 and 12 year sentences was cruel and unusual punishment.

Good luck to these two men in putting their lives together again. They will forever be felons but I should hope someone will put them back to work. Mistakes were made but President Bush corrected one of them as he left Washington DC for Crawford.

Mexican Standoff

We've all seen the old movie cliche where three opponents with weapons aimed at each other have reached the profound realization that any first strike will endanger his own life. If he should shoot first it takes his aim away from the other opponent destroying the crucial aspect of multiple deterrence. It makes great drama. When it comes to international politics it is a disaster waiting to happen.

Such as it has become on our southern border. The national government is losing control of the country. The drug cartels have infiltrated, corrupted or coerced every aspect of society in the Mexican states that border the USA. There is another problem: one of the three combatants has a blindfold on.

The government controlled Mexican Army, or the subset of it that has not taken up with the other side, the drug lords and a deaf, dumb and blind United States are the players in what may be the biggest drama on the world stage right now. Unfortunately we Americans are almost completely oblivious. We are so inundated with Obama's deity, Jessica Simpson's waistline and Caylee Anthony's murder that there just isn't time to report on the potential collapse of one of America's most important strategic partners.

I have seen a few articles on the Internet with this being the latest - a fine piece in the Wall Street Journal (which I consider the last great NEWSpaper). This one excerpt says it all.

If Mexico isn't a failed state, though, it is a country with a weak state -- one the narcos seem to be weakening further.

"The Mexican state is in danger," says Gerardo Priego, a deputy from Mr. Calderon's ruling center-right party, known as the PAN. "We are not yet a failed state, but if we don't take action soon, we will become one very soon."

Based on what we are hearing from the major media and the Obama Administration... (crickets chirping)... One can almost hear the fiddle playing in Washington DC. I know it's only been a month since they took over but we heard nothing during the 2 year long campaign either.

There are 100 million people on the southern border of the U.S., meaning any semblance of a collapse would flood the U.S. with refugees. Cities like Phoenix, Houston, San Diego and Los Angeles would falter under the weight of such an invasion. How long before they would be in your town?
