That old adage the enemy of my enemy is my friend like most old adages has some truth in it. Common goals bind unlikely conspirators for short term gains. The problem is that eventually goals diverge and one is likely to come head to head with their new friend. This happens in every aspect of life and is certainly true of politics and sports. Usually the end result is the end of the season or the losing of an election, sometimes tragic, yes, but not the end of the world. But it also happens in war, all kinds of wars, and when friends suddenly become enemies people can die.
So we have to wonder how the forces of expansionist Islam and modern leftism will reconcile once their common enemy is defeated. The common enemy is of course America and the West. Democracy, free speech, the rights of the individual and the rule of law are at odds here. While Political Correctness, the religion of the left, pays lip service to all these tenants their desire to control all things is not that unlike Islam's demand for unquestioning devotion.
Islam and the Political Correctness is on a collision course, it has to be. The very charges PC lays on conservatism and Christianity are amplified tenfold in the ultra intolerance of Sharia Law. Gay rights, free love, atheism and especially freedom of expression are sacrilegious in Islam. Once the common enemy of both is vanquished PC is doomed.
Some believe Political Correctness is a self extinguishing philosophy anyway. The real problem is that it will destroy everything on it's way out. With that in mind it makes perfect sense for expansionist Islam to seek this alliance. What do leftists gain? Unless they see the world as unredeemable anyway and their nihilism overrules all else, there is only the subjugation of Sharia Law in their future.
When someone on the left examines this alliance intelligently, bringing it out to it's logical conclusion the light bulb clicks on. Their mistake is trying to get their comrades to take the blinders off. Read the story of Eric Allen Bell a filmmaker mugged by reality while making his documentary "Unwelcome" about the opposition to the construction of a proposed mega-mosque in the heart of the American Bible belt.
His intent was to undress the bigoted, small minded intolerance of the locals in a small Tennessee town. He smelled a rat and his awakening to what Islam really is got him ejected from his association with his own kind. He doesn't suddenly become a Bible thumping conservative, but he does understand that the locals while being inarticulate have the right instinct. Radical Islam is a cancer.
The Politically Correct left will hear none of it. They will not answer specific points or actually address the concerns of those who fear Sharia, they only issue threats and the condescension of dismissal.
It's a compelling story - and it's frightening because Political Correctness rules the Western world whether we like it or not. It will bring us all down in it's death spiral. Islam's immunity to PCism will protect it until the time comes to swoop in and fill the void.

The dictator of New York
On the tenth anniversary of 9/11, Bloomberg has decreed that clergy will
be excluded from the 9/11 memorial ceremony. He says the memorial
schedule is too busy to allow prayer. What is wrong with this guy? Is he
a petty tyrant or just an asshat?
I hope New Yorkers like Mayor Bloomberg. I certainly don't. He seems like a typical dictator to me. His decisions are final and no one is going to change his "open" mind. It's not even his ridiculous decisions to keep firefighters and clergy from the remembrance ceremonies of 9/11 that frost me, but also his numerous bans on foodstuffs, perp walks, indefensible defenses of government funded abortions and mosques in the shadow of ground zero.
On the mosque flap, as many have said, and I agree - they should and do have the right to build their mosque anywhere, but having the right and being a good idea are two different things. My problem with Bloomberg on this issue was his lashing out at those who see it differently than him. It makes him look like a petulant child.
If Bloomberg's open mind is so consistent on the ground zero mosque issue as well as his push back against the atheists protesting the inclusion into the 9/11 museum a Christian cross made from steel beams from the WTC wreckage, then why the attitude toward religion during the remembrance ceremonies?
What about the FDNY firefighters? Why exclude them?

Undue Credit?
In the post immediately preceding this one I credited the President with making a tough and dangerous decision. Well hold on there...
While I watched only a little of his 9 minute announcement - seeing clips on subsequent news broadcasts as well - I was struck by how many I's, me's, and mine's were used by a confident President Obama. This is his natural MO, but in this case it seemed, perhaps, justified. Not so fast.
After reading this article on Pamela Geller's Atlas Shrugs website a different picture emerges that begins to show the true picture of a tentative, nervous "undecider" rather than the confident I, me, mine man standing before the cameras and the world last Sunday night.
The following is the jist of it - and if true my opinion of President Obama has, if possible, sunk even further...
RE: Osama Bin Laden. Significant push to take him out months ago. Senior WH staff resisted. This was cause of much strain between HC and Obama/Jarrett. HC and LP were in constant communication over matter – both attempted to convince administration to act. Administration feared failure and resulting negative impact on president. Intel disgusted over politics over national security. Staff resigned/left. Check timeline to corroborate.
Now Intel already leaking to media facts surrounding how info obtained. Namely from enhanced interrogation efforts via GITMO prisoners. Obama administration placed in corner on this. Some media aware of danger to president RE this and attempting protection. Others looking for further investigation. We are pushing for them to follow through and already meeting with some access.
Point of determination made FOR Obama not BY Obama. Will clarify as details become more clear. Very clear divide between Military and WH. Jarrett marginalized 100% on decision to take out OBL. She played no part. BD worked with LP and HC to form coalition to force CoC to engage.
IMPORTANT SPECIFIC: When 48 hour go order issued, CoC was told, not requested. Administration scrambled to abort. That order was overruled. This order did not originate from CoC. Repeat – this order did not originate from CoC. He complied, but did not originate.
Independent military contacts have confirmed. Stories corroborate one another. This is legit.
The killing of Osama Bin Laden was in fact a Coup within Obama WH.
This story is far from over!

Good Riddance
Good riddance indeed. Osama bin Laden is dead. A great job by everyone involved. The President made a dangerous decision, dangerous for his career and for the military men involved, but it was the right decision.
I will refrain from making any predictions. I remember being confident that once Saddam Hussein was gone that Iraq would settle down. I couldn't have been more wrong. While is was great to be excited that Saddam was dead just as it is great to be jubuliant that bin Laden is dead the future is just as uncertain.
Part of me wants Obama to declare victory and go home, but that part of the world left to its own devices could spell trouble for the rest of the world. I don't know exactly what should done, no one really does. Osama's death should change something though...

Ground Zero Mosque

I've heard all the arguments for and against allowing a Mosque to go in so very close to the 9/11 Ground Zero site. Mayor Bloomberg particularly makes my stomach turn. His vitriol in support of it is more about chastising understandably sensitive Americans than it is about so-called American ideals. On the other side I feel like I'm watching Charlton Heston's hit movie - The Planet of the Apes when he mumbles "get your hands off me you damn, dirty Muslims".
Well, the two most compelling arguments for and against I've heard came at me out of left field (or was it talk radio). On one hand radio host Hugh Hewitt likens Ground Zero to the killing fields of Gettysburg - it is a graveyard. Some 8,000 people lost their life in The Battle of Gettysburg. Plans to open a casino near the Gettysburg battlefield were defeated in 2006 on the grounds that it is a graveyard and that commercial use and exploitation of hallowed grounds is unseemly and inappropriate. Ground Zero is no different. The Mosque being considered is there for no other reason than its proximity to the site of the 9/11 attacks where 3,000 people lost their lives. There is no reason the Mosque couldn't be built elsewhere. To put such a symbol of Islam adjacent to a "battlefield" in the Islamic war against the West is unseemly and inappropriate. I find this a compelling argument against allowing it.
On the other hand, radio host Jason Lewis says hold on a minute. This is a nation whose government has deployed troops to every corner of the world, erecting the equivalent symbol of its religion - militaristic power - with every military base we build. The citizens of the hosting nations are never comfortable with the American military flexing it's muscle, or staging military strikes against their neighbors from their lands.
Face it, we won WWII 60+ years ago and yet we still have bases in Germany and Japan. If you think the Japanese are happy with that think again. Japan's prime minister Yukio Hatoyama resigned in June for failing to fulfill a campaign promise. News reports say the premier takes responsibility for a broken campaign promise of moving U.S. marine base off island of Okinawa. Locals for years have claimed mistreatment and rape at the hands of American soldiers.
The countries that sport a U.S. military presence includes Bulgaria, Greenland, Guam, Italy, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, Portugal, Spain, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, Italy, Germany, Japan, Kuwait, Kosovo, South Korea, Cuba, Saudi Arabia and now Afghanistan and Iraq, and in all these places there was or is vehement opposition by the citizens. Did it ever stop us? No, not for a minute. How is this different than Islam building a controversial Mosque in a nation that makes religious freedom a hallmark of its founding?
The argument Jason Lewis put out there is not to argue for the construction of the Mosque at Ground Zero just a pause to think about what we - the U.S. - has done almost without regard to local sensibilities all around the world.
Good arguments, both of them. Personally I am siding with the former. Since no one is saying the Mosque should not be built at all then why not insist it be built somewhere else? I don't think the proponents for this Mosque - including the President - are fooling anyone. This is a provocative, in your face move by the Islamists. As for the U.S. being the world's policeman with a military presence in every slice of the globe, well that's a subject for another discussion just not this one.

Adding Insult to Injury
You just have to wonder about some people in America...
Imagine if you will someone proposing the Holocaust Memorial structure built in the shape of a swastika. Obscene isn't it. So when the plans for the United Airlines Flight 93 memorial in Shanksville, PA was announced you can imagine how some people would be outraged that is was going to be in the shape of a crescent and it was facing Mecca, to add insult to injury it was going to be called the"Crescent of Embrace".
[See this FOX News article for a graphical representation]
form the article:
Some critics say its crescent-shaped design call to mind Islam or subtly include the hijackers alongside the passengers and crew.
The National Park Service, which is managing the construction of the memorial, denied those claims, but changed the design to more of a circle, and dropped the name.
Please... OK, if they are being upfront why would they use the word "Crescent" in the first place? Another feature is a separate section of the wall – centered exactly on the bisector of the giant crescent – that is in the exact position of the star on an Islamic flag.
My guess is that somewhere in all of this is the attitude that America is to blame for victimizing the Islamic world for all these years - that the hijackers had legitimate grievances and they just chose an inappropriate way the redress these grievances.
The architectural firm Paul Murdoch Architects of Los Angeles claims Islam has nothing to do with the memorial and that a vast majority of the families of the victims are endorsing the design. I would just ask them the same question I asked at the beginning of this post... Such a design should never have made it off the drawing board.
